heal.abstractΗ ύπαρξη παιδιού με νοητική αναπηρία στην οικογένεια, η ανατροφή και η φροντίδα του, συνιστούν απειλή για την ψυχική υγεία των γονιών και αποτελούν τον κύριο προδιαθεσικό παράγοντα άγχους και στρες για τους γονείς. Σκοπός της παρούσας συστηματικής ανασκόπησης είναι (α) να αποδελτιώσει την σύγχρονη ερευνητική βιβλιογραφία που σχετίζεται με το άγχος και το στρες σε γονείς με παιδιά με διαφόρων μορφών νοητική στέρηση, (β) να συνοψίσει τους παράγοντες και τις επιμέρους παραμέτρους που αρύονται από την σύγχρονη έρευνα αναφορικά με την επίδραση της νοητικής αναπηρίας στους γονείς και (γ) να συνθέσει μια διαπολιτισμική άποψη αναφορικά με την ύπαρξη του άγχους στους γονείς με παιδιά με νοητική αναπηρία. Συστηματική Ανασκόπηση ερευνητικών άρθρων δημοσιευμένων σε έγκυρα επιστημονικά περιοδικά, καταχωρημένων στις διεθνείς ακαδημαϊκές βάσεις δεδομένων HEAL-LING, SAGE, ELSEVIER, WILSON, SCIENCEDIRECT, MEDLINE, PUBMED, PsycINFO, Cochrane, EMBASE, SCIRUS και CINAHL με κριτήρια αναζήτησης και λέξεις κλειδιά τους όρους «parental stress and mental retardation» [MeSH], «parenting stress and persons with special needs» [MeSH], «mental retardation and family problems» [MeSH], «stress and parents» [MeSH], «parenting and stress» [MeSH], «mental delay and parents» [MeSH], «developmental disabilities and family stress» [MeSH], «intellectual handicap and parenting» [MeSH], «maternal stress and child with disabilities» [MeSH]). Χρονολογικός Περιορισμός Δεκαπενταετίας (1994-2009) και Γλωσσικός Περιορισμός Αγγλικής Γλώσσας λειτούργησαν ως φίλτρα ένταξης των ερευνών στην παρούσα Συστηματική Ανασκόπηση. Εντάχθηκαν οι μελέτες που πληρούσαν τα παραπάνω κριτήρια και αναδείκνυαν την στατιστική σχέση της νοητικής αναπηρίας με το άγχος της γονεϊκότητας. Από το σύνολο των 76 διαθέσιμων δημοσιευμένων επιστημονικών άρθρων με έρευνα, εκπαιδευτικά και θεραπευτικά προγράμματα, μοντέλα παρέμβασης, ανακοινώσεις συνεδρίων και πρακτικά συνεδρίων σχετικά με τα παραπάνω κριτήρια, επιλέχθηκαν μόνο τα ερευνητικά δημοσιευμένα ή υπό δημοσίευση (on line availability) άρθρα και τελικά η Συστηματική Ανασκόπηση στηρίζεται στην ερευνητική σύνθεση των αποτελεσμάτων 26 ερευνών. Η ανασκόπηση έδειξε ότι όλες οι μορφές νοητικής στέρησης επιδρούν στατιστικά σημαντικά στην ψυχική υγεία των γονιών. Το άγχος, το στρες και η κατάθλιψη είναι τα κοινά συμπτώματα που αναφέρουν οι γονείς. Παράλληλα, επιμέρους μεταβλητές αποτελούν η συζυγική σχέση, η αντίληψη των γονιών για την αναπηρία του παιδιού τους, οι γονεϊκές στρατηγικές που χρησιμοποιούν για να ανταποκριθούν στην καθημερινότητα της αναπηρίας του παιδιού τους και τα συμπεριφορικά προβλήματα των παιδιών τους που αυξάνουν το επίπεδο του άγχους των γονιών. Τέλος, η ανασκόπηση προσδίδει την ίδια βαρύτητα συμπτωμάτων και επίδρασης της αναπηρίας στους γονείς σε χώρες διαφορετικής κουλτούρας (Δύση – Ανατολή) αλλά διαφορετική αντίληψη για την παροχή κοινωνικής υποστήριξης στους γονείς και το καθημερινό τους άγχος.el
heal.abstractThe presence, upbringing and looking after of a mentally retarded child in the family, can become a threat to the mental health of its parents and is the main predisposing factor of stress for the parents. The purpose of this systematic review is (a) to document the contemporary research bibliography related to the stress of parents with mentally retarded children, (b) to aggregate the factors and secondary parameters based on the contemporary research related to the influence of the (child’s) mental retardation on the parents and (c) to show an intercultural aspect regarding the presence of stress to parents with mentally retarded children. Systematic review of research articles published in scientific journals included in the international academic databases HEAL-LING, SAGE, ELSEVIER, WILSON, SCIENCEDIRECT, MEDLINE, PUBMED, PsycINFO, Cochrane, EMBASE, SCIRUS and CINAHL having as search criteria and key words the terms («parental stress and mental retardation» [MeSH], «parenting stress and persons with special needs» [MeSH], «mental retardation and family problems» [MeSH], «stress and parents» [MeSH], «parenting and stress» [MeSH], «mental delay and parents» [MeSH], «developmental disabilities and family stress» [MeSH], «intellectual handicap and parenting» [MeSH], «maternal stress and child with disabilities» [MeSH]). The Chronological Limitation of Fifteen Years (1994-2009) and the Language Limitation in the English Language have been used as research filters for the present Systematic Review. Studies fulfilling the above mentioned criteria and showing the statistical relationship between mental retardation and parental stress have been included in the present review. This Systematic Review is based on the research study of the results of 26 published research articles (on line availability) which have been selected from a total of 76 available published scientific articles concerning research, educational and therapeutical programmes, theraupetical models, congress announcements and records related to the above mentioned criteria. The review has proven that all forms of mental retardation have an important -from a statistic point of view- impact on the parents’ mental health. Anxiety, stress and depression are common symptoms mentioned by the parents. Additionally, there are individual variables such as the husband-wife relationship, the parents’ approach to their child’s disability, the parental strategies used in order to cope with the daily life of the child’s disability and the behavioural problems of their child, all of which contribute to the increase of the level of parental stress. Finally, this review indicates that there is a same level of seriousness of the symptoms and impact of the disability on the parents in counties with different cultures (West – East). However, at the same time, there is a different approach in terms of social support provided to the parents and their everyday stress.en
