A study of the effects of 15N ion beam irradiation on organic compoundsen
The organic compounds EDTA, EDTA-Na, cellulose, and the biological samples bovine liver and DNA, were irradiated with 15N ions at an energy of 8.5 MeV; the hydrogen yields during bombardment were monitored via the 1H(15N, αγ)12C resonant reaction. In all cases, the hydrogen yield as a function of the total beam charge decreases in a multiple exponential way. This indicates that there are different mechanisms by which hydrogen is lost. By fitting the hydrogen yields with proper multiple exponential functions, the initial hydrogen concentration of the samples was determined.en
