| heal.abstract | The Royal Bookshop was a kind of State Publishing house and operated as part of the National Printing Office from the year 1836 to 1838. Its main aim was the publishing of educational books, whose introduction to the primary and secondary education was obligatory. The up to now limited knowledge we had about the past of this particular department is completed quite satisfactorily by the information that is included in Part A of this study. The first source from which we took this information is some unknown and unpublished —until today— documents that we found at the old Archive of the Central office of Ministry of Education (see General State Archives). These documents are from the years 1835- 1837 and 1839; they refer precisely to the estamblishment and operation of the Royal Bookshop and also to the educational books, which were approved by a special committee. In Part B of the study, we publish, in extenso, 14 documents, which characterize, as we think, important dimensions of the history of the establishment of the Royal Bookshop, as well as the way of its operation. Moreover, some of these documents suggest the main reason that led to its dissolution. | el |
