| heal.abstract | In this paper we present a set of Distributed Shared Memory (DSM) tools. These tools follow the philosophy of Open Implementation. They do not include built-in policies for management of shared data, while the task of definition and implementation of the basic design choices for the manipulation of shared data is shifted from the DSM system to the programmer. One of the main reasons that DSM systems are not widely used today in the development of parallel applications is the fact that no existing DSM system meets the requirements of a wide variety of applications, usually due to inflexible built-in policies. The system described here provides the programmer with a set of tools enabling the customization of the DSM system, according to the needs of any specific application. This set of tools has resulted from the decomposition of existing DSM systems into primitive functions. | en |
