In principle, QSAR describe how the molecular structure, in terms of descriptors-lipophilic, electronic and steric - affects the chemical or biological activity of a compound. In this regard the UV-VIS spectra appear of a real interest considering their intrinsic electronic informational character As a consequence the reliability of factor scores described by the first principal components as "natural electronic descriptors" has been tested in this paper, by comparing it with biological data of Pd(H) and Pt(II) complexes of pyridine-2-carbaldehyde thiosemicarbazone concerning their effect on sister chromatid exchange (SCE) rate and human lymphocyte proliferation kinetics (proliferation rate index; PRI) and antitumour activity on leukemia-P388-bearing mice. The high significant correlations obtained in some cases indicate a potential relevance of UV-VIS information for QSAR/QSPR studies.en
