Description

The adsorption of Li and Na, separately, on Cs-intercalated TaSe2(0001) was studied in this work. The investigation took place in UHV by soft X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) using synchrotron radiation as excitation source. The intercalation occurred across the Van der Waals planes by deposition on the basal plane of the layer compound. Lithium and sodium deposited separately on Cs-intercalated TaSe2, cause a diffusion of Cs towards the surface. The deintercalation of Cs is more drastic by Li than that by Na. This phenomenon is guided by a repulsive alkali-alkali electrostatic interaction and it is related to the thermodynamic and kinetic effects which have been described in this paper.
