heal.abstractA kinetic study of the solid state formation of poly(phthalocyaninatosiloxane) ([Si(Pc)O]n), a candidate component of air-stable, light-weight, electrically conductive fibers, was performed. The initiation of reaction occurs at defect sites, whereas propagation takes place through a chain polycondensation scheme as a result of lattice (topochemical) control. An Avrami-type power 2 law fits the low temperature data up to high conversions and the high temperature data up to the reaction rate maximum. The maximum chain length is probably controlled by the relative phthalocyanine ring spacings of the reactant and product lattices.en
