| heal.abstract | The philosophical work of Eftychis Bitsakis, emeritus Professor at the Uni¬versity of Ioannina, is presented in the wider context of his intellectual and political endeavours spanning almost eight decades. The exposition focusses on Bitsakis' contribution to the formulation of a philosophy of nature pro¬viding an interpretation of modern physics -quantum theory and relativity- along the lines of a universal dialectical materialist approach to nature in the micro and macro domain. Bitsakis' natural philosophy is placed in the frame¬work of his understanding of Marxism marked by original traits in articulat¬ing a realist approach to social and natural phenomena whilst retaining an explicitly anti-positivist stance. The profile of Bistakis' work however would be misplaced without inscribing it in the context of his political engagement first in the communist party, with which he actually never came to terms, and then in the radical left flanked by his leading role in projects of theoretical reviews over the years and prolific writing on philosophical, political and so¬cial matters. | en |
