| heal.abstract | Η παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία επιχειρεί να αναδείξει τον ρόλο και τη σπουδαιότητα των διαφόρων ειδών μαγικών και μαντικών πρακτικών κατά τη μέση Βυζαντινή περίοδο, από την αρχή της Μακεδονικής Δυναστείας μέχρι την κατάληψη της Κωνσταντινούπολης από τους Σταυροφόρους το 1204. Συγκεκριμένα, το πρώτο μέρος της εργασίας επικεντρώνεται στα είδη της μαγείας και μαντείας, με βάση τις νομοθετικές, κανονιστικές και αφηγηματικές πηγές, αλλά και τα αρχαιολογικά κατάλοιπα, αποκαλύπτοντας πως η μαγεία, η γοητεία και η μαντεία ήταν αναπόσπαστο μέρος της πραγματικότητας της μεσαιωνικής βυζαντινής κοινωνίας. Στο δεύτερο μέρος τονίζεται ο ρόλος του μάγου και του μάντη, ως μέρος της πολιτικής και θρησκευτικής προπαγάνδας της μεσοβυζαντινής περιόδου. Λόγιοι Βυζαντινοί, αιρετικοί και ξένοι βρέθηκαν στο περιθώριο της βυζαντινής κοινωνίας για διαφορετικούς λόγους, κατηγορούμενοι για άσκηση μαγικών και μαντικών πρακτικών. Τέλος, εξετάζονται οι κατηγορίες για μαγεία και ξόρκια που απαγγέλθηκαν σε γυναίκες όλων των κοινωνικών τάξεων, ακόμα και σε αυτοκράτειρες. | el |
| heal.abstract | This study aims at showing the role and the importance of different kinds of magical and divinatory arts in the middle Byzantine era, from the beginning of the Macedonian dynasty up to the Sack of Constantinople from the Crusaders in 1204. The first section of the essay is focusing in the different types of magic and divination, using the evidence of normative and narrative sources, along with archaeological artifacts, in order to showcase that magic, sorcery and divination were a part of the byzantine everyday life. In the second section this study emphasizes the role of magicians and soothsayers in the political and religious propaganda of the middle Byzantine era. Learned Byzantines, heretics and foreigners accused of magic, were marginalized and alienated from the byzantine society for different reasons. Finally, particular attention is paid to women from different social classes, even empresses, who were accused of using magic and spells. | en |
