| heal.abstract | This article deals with the intentions and activities of the Ottoman government to install moslem settlements in Epirus area at the end of the 19th century. Such plans had appeared since 1876 but they had not been realised because of the strong protests of the Greek government and the direct interference of the Great Powers. The attempts to establish moslem settlements in Epirus at the end of the 19th century and especially after the Greco-Turkish War of 1897 were directed to colonize the area of Phanari in Thesprotia district with Bosnian, Circasian and other Moslem peoples. This threat, which was very critic (of great importance) for the Greek government, was also never carried out after the protest of Greece through the Greek embassy in Constantinople and the intervention of the Oecumenical Patriarchate. | en |
