Η παρούσα πτυχιακή εργασία παρουσιάζει και αναλύει το σύνδρομο Wernicke Korsakoff ή
αλλιώς αλκοολική άνοια (ευρύτερος όρος). Στην αρχή απαραίτητη είναι η εισαγωγή του
αναγνώστη στην ανατομία και φυσιολογία του εγκεφάλου και στις γνωστικές λειτουργίες.
Στη συνέχεια, αναλύεται διεξοδικά το σύνδρομο από την πρώτη του περιγραφή το 1880,
ποιές οι αιτίες που πυροδοτούν την έναρξη του, τα συμπτώματα που κυριαρχούν αλλα και
πώς επηρεάζεται ο πληθυσμός. Δίνεται μεγαλη έμφαση στον τρόπο με τον οποίο τα
συμπτώματα επηρεάζουν τη ζωή του ασθενούς και κατ επέκταση την οικογένειά του και πώς
εν τέλει επιδρούν στην επικοινωνία του, λεκτική και μη λεκτική, που είναι από τα κύρια
σημεία της εργασίας μας. Ιδιαίτερη σημασία δίνεται σε περιπτώσεις ασθενών που
εμφανίζουν διαταραχές κατάποσης ως αρχικό σύμπτωμα, με αρχική περιγραφή της
φυσιολογικής κατάποσης και των σταδίων αυτής.
Κατόπιν, το περιεχόμενο της εργασίας μας επικεντρώνεται στην εμφάνιση ψυχιατρικών
συμπτωμάτων και κατάθλιψης στους ασθενείς με το σύνδρομο WK και σε μη αλκοολικούς
ασθενείς. Επίσης, ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον έχουν οι περιπτώσεις ασθενών που πληρούν τα
κριτήρια για τη συνθήκη Caine και πως αυτή επιδρά στην καθημερινότητα τους.
Κλείνοντας, η εργασία μας εστιάζει στη διάγνωση και την νευροψυχολογική εκτίμηση των
συμπτωμάτων με κύριο την προσβολή της μνήμης και τα προγράμματα αποκατάστασης και
στήριξης που έχουν ακολουθηθεί και προτείνονται από τους ερευνητές για την αποθεραπεία
του ασθενούς και την ομαλότερη επιστροφή του στην καθημερινή ζωή
This thesis presents and analyzes the Wernicke Korsakoff syndrome or alcoholic dementia (broader term). In the beginning it is necessary to introduce the reader to the anatomy and physiology of the brain and the cognitive functions. Then, the syndrome is thoroughly analyzed from its first description in 1880, which causes give rise on its onset, the main symptoms and how the population is affected. Great emphasis is placed on the way in which the symptoms affect the patient's life and therefore his family and how they affect his communication, verbal and non-verbal, which is one of the major points of our thesis. Distinctive importance is given to cases of patients who present with swallowing disorders as an initial symptom, with an initial description of normal swallowing and its stages. Consequently, the content of our dissertation focuses on the occurrence of psychiatric symptoms and depression in patients with WK syndrome and in non-alcoholic patients. Also, of particular interest are the cases of patients who meet the criteria for Caine's condition and how it affects their daily life. In conclusion, our thesis brings out the diagnosis and neuropsychological assessment of the symptoms, mainly memory impairment, and the rehabilitation and support programs that have been followed and proposed by the researchers for the patient's recovery and a smoother return to daily life.
