| heal.abstract | This article constitutes an extended commentary on the last days of April 1941 days marked by the disgrace and the setbacks suffered by the Greek Navy in the well documented mutinies of the Royal ships and submarines. It also contains the lists of the ships and the men who retreated on their own volition in the Middle East and who later constituted the bulk of the auxiliary services necessary for the maintainance of the Greek Fleet in Egypt. It emphasizes also the primary role played by Lieutenant Commander Melissinos and Captain Petropoulos R.N., in saving those boats and the similar role played by a few of the reserve officers of 1935. The importance of the article lies on the fact that it provides the historian with all those material necessary to make a judgment on the dramatic events of the last days of the Greek-German War as well as a reasonable explanation of the developing phenomenon of collaborationism in occupied Greece. | en |
