Το περιεχόμενο της συγκεκριμένης εργασίας επιχειρεί μια συνοπτική αλλά ουσιώδη παρουσίαση της λογοτεχνίας του φανταστικού και των βασικότερων κατηγοριών της, δηλαδή του fantasy, της επιστημονικής φαντασίας και της λογοτεχνίας τρόμου, καθώς και την εισαγωγή στο μουσικό είδος της metal και των διάφορων υποκατηγοριών της. Η βασική πρόθεση του εγχειρήματος συνολικά είναι να επισημανθεί και να εξεταστεί η επίδραση που είχε και συνεχίζει να έχει η λογοτεχνία του φανταστικού στη metal μουσική, σε στιχουργικό, εικαστικό και δραματουργικό πλαίσιο, οι πιθανοί λόγοι για τους οποίους πληθώρα δημιουργών του συγκεκριμένου μουσικού είδους αντλούν έμπνευση από το φανταστικό ως στοιχείο, καθώς και η γενικότερη αλληλεπίδραση αυτών των δυο καλλιτεχνικών εκφάνσεων. Για τη διερεύνηση του θέματος, εξετάζονται επιστημονικά κείμενα όπως πτυχιακές εργασίες και διδακτορικές διατριβές, άρθρα σχετικά με ζητήματα που αφορούν τη λογοτεχνία του φανταστικού και τη μουσική, συνεντεύξεις συγκροτημάτων από το διαδίκτυο, εξώφυλλα/artwork δίσκων, φωτογραφίες συγκροτημάτων και βιβλία σχετικά με τα συγκεκριμένα είδη μουσικής και λογοτεχνίας.
The content of this study attempts a brief but essential presentation of speculative literature and its main categories, namely fantasy, science fiction and horror literature, as well as the introduction to the musical genre of metal and its various subcategories. The main intention of the project as a whole is to point out and examine the influence that speculative literature has had and continues to have on metal music, in a lyrical, visual and performing context, the possible reasons for which the creators of this particular musical genre draw inspiration from the fantastical as an element, as well as the general interaction of those two artistic forms. To explore the subject, scholarly texts such as dissertations and doctoral dissertations, articles on speculative fiction and music, online interviews with bands, album covers/artwork and photographs of bands, and books on those specific genres of music and literature are examined.
