heal.abstractParaphrasing De La Croix and Doepke (2009) we ask "how is the funding level of public education aΒ€ected by the presence of private schools for the rich, in societies with weak and strong institutions?". We Β nd that while in societies with strong institutions increases in inequality decrease participation in public schooling but improve its quality, in societies with weak isntitutions the quality of public schooling deteriorates whereas due to larger redistribution participation in the public regime increases.en
