| heal.abstract | THE MUNICIPAL ROLL OF THE “UNION” AND THE “FOREIGNERS” OF CORFU. The municipal roll books that have been found provide us with many data concerning the population of the town and the countryside of Corfu after the Union of the Ionian Islands with the Greek State (1864). From this variety of data offered we have chosen to deal in this article with a brief report of the municipal status and the municipal roll books at first and then we present the thematic part that refers to the non native citizens of the urban fabric of Corfu island, their place of origin, the conditions of their transit from those as well as the factors that led them to the choice of the new place of settlement. As far as the latter is concerned, it is noteworthy that the majority of citizens that come from other places choose to take up residence in the town of Corfu, not in the countryside. Knowing that the town provides a more favorable environment for adjustment due to its high assimilative capacities seems to be taken seriously into account on that occasion too.
