heal.abstractThe existence of a necropolis of the Phaleron Delta, 4.1 km from the centre of Athens, was noted since the late 19th century. But it is due to the rescue excavations undertaken by the Ephorate of Antiquities of Piraeus and the Islands (2012-2013, 2015-2020) for the construction of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) that revealed an extended coastal cemetery which remained in use from the end of eighth to the fourth century BC. The present article focuses on the SE Sector of the cemetery excavated in 2017-2018. The graves, presented here, might be limited in number, but they can illuminate the large chronological span o f the cemetery’s use and the variability in the burial customs applied. Pit graves, enchytrismoi, primary cremations and the burial of a horse are discussed, covering a period of ca. four centuries. The results of the anthropological study of the deceased of this Sector included in this article do not only include the age and gender estimation but their pathologies, revealing the difficulties that these individuals were facing in their everyday life. An appendix is dedicated to the horse of Burial 10 of the Phaleron Delta necropolis.en
