Sequential addition of bipy, or phen followed by H(3)mpg (a sulfhydryl-containing pseudopeptide) and AcONa.2H(2)O to (VOSO4)-O-IV.5H(2)O in the presence of oxygen yields [((VO)-O-IV)(2)(mu-OH)(mu-OAc)(mu-H(2)mpgS-S)(2)L-2].xMeOH.yH(2)O (L = bipy, 1.1.68MeOH.0.75H(2)O or phen, 2.1.40MeOH.0.81H(2)O), containing the oxidized-S,S dimer of H(3)mpg [H(2)mpgS-S2-]; [((VO)-O-IV)(2)(mu-OH)(mu-OAc)(OAc)(2)(bipy)(2)](3) was also prepared in a similar way to 1.1.68MeOH.0.75H(2)O using reduced glutathione instead of H(3)mpg.en
